Vought Rising: The Boys spin-off goes back to the origins of Vought
Vought Rising is not just another spin-off in the universe of The BoysIf Prime Video plays its cards right, the series could become the missing piece between the Vought laboratory, the birth of American superheroes and the return of two characters that fans have clearly not forgotten: Soldier Boy and Stormfront.
The series was commissioned by Prime Video, with Jensen Ackles And Aya Cash announced at the heart of the project. Deadline confirmed that the two actors are set to reprise their respective roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront. And on paper, it’s probably the most solid spin-off idea that The Boys could throw after Gen V.
A prequel that goes back to the origins of Vought
Vought Rising must take place in the 1950s. This choice changes everything. Instead of simply extending the modern storylines around Homelander, Butcher, or Starlight, the series goes back to the time when Vought wasn’t yet the ultra-polished media machine we know in The Boys.
Eric Kripke and Paul Grellong presented the project as a twisted criminal investigation into the origins of Vought, the early years of Soldier Boy, and the machinations of Stormfront, also known as Clara Vought. It’s not just a vintage superhero story, then. It’s primarily an opportunity to show how the company began crafting its own mythology, long before The Seven and its carefully orchestrated press conferences.
Soldier Boy and Stormfront, two returns that make sense
The return of Jensen Ackles is the project’s main draw. Soldier Boy had already brought a very particular energy to The Boys : a mixture of brutality, patriotic satire and a constant sense of unease. Seeing it again in its time, at the moment when it becomes a manufactured icon, can offer more than just a nostalgic cameo.
The Stormfront case is more delicate, but also more interesting from a narrative standpoint. The character portrayed by Aya Cash made a strong impression in season 2 because she revealed the horror behind Vought’s modern veneer. By placing her in the 1950s, Vought Rising can tell the story of the company’s ideological contamination without having to beat around the bush. It’s risky, obviously, but The Boys has always been stronger when the series dares to look its monsters in the face.
The release date is still to be determined.
Prime Video has not yet given an official release date. Aya Cash even explained in the fall of 2024 that she didn’t yet know when filming would begin, while mentioning that she had read the first two scripts and that they were “insanely good.” In simpler terms: the project is very real, but it’s too soon to sell a release window as if it were already secured.
That’s also why Vought Rising can rise quietly while waiting. The last season of The Boys must conclude the main story, while Gen V It retains the campus and new generation feel. The prequel, on the other hand, can win back fans who want to understand where the Vought system really came from.
Why Vought Rising Can Count More Than The Boys Mexico
Another spin-off, The Boys: Mexicois also in development with Diego Luna and Gael Garcรญa Bernal on the production side. Vought Rising has a huge advantage: it starts with already established characters and a central mystery that the parent series never fully exhausted.
The first images already give a more concrete idea of โโthis ambition: our analysis of the Vought Rising teaser returns to its retro noir atmosphere. The project also has an astonishing history, since it was initially rejected before becoming one of the most closely watched spin-offs; This is how Vought Rising was relaunched.

If the project delivers on its promise, it can avoid the trap of being a purely decorative spin-off. There’s no need to invent a new branch of the universe just to fill the Prime Video schedule. With Soldier Boy, Stormfront, Compound V, and the 1950s, Vought Rising already has an engine. And in the universe of The BoysUnderstanding how Vought started selling monsters as heroes is almost as important as knowing how Homelander will fall.
