Snow (France 2): The real filming location in 2026 is intriguing, Frédéric Diefenthal reveals this detail
A thriller set in the snow changes everything! Snow is back on France 2 and the big question is already being asked: where was this hypnotic whiteness captured? Frédéric Diefenthal The veil is finally lifted.
Snow (France 2): a filming location authentic and yet little known
The camera was positioned in the heart of the Haute Maurienne valley, in Savoy, a corridor that runs between Aussois and Bonneval-sur-Arc. These villages, used to peaceful hikes, found themselves the main setting for a chilling thriller.
Strategic choice: the terrain offers a wide field of view, no walls blocking the horizon. Laurent Tuel, the director, was precisely looking for this feeling of space, “so that the threat can breathe,” he confides.
The result is striking: every shot lets in the winter light, never a persistent grey. The team even took advantage of a storm the day before filming, enough to dust the rooftops and save the atmosphere!
Why did the production company shun the major stations?
Megève and Courchevel? The idea existed but quickly faded. Too many high-end chalets, not enough rugged alleyways for a serial killer. The Haute Maurienne still offers raw stone facades, perfect for sending shivers down the spines of the public.
Another advantage: the compact area. Les Saisies, Crest-Voland, Combloux – everything is reachable in less than an hour by truck. The technicians save time, the actors stay in the same mental setting, and the immersion is better.
Frédéric Diefenthal tells the story of the storm that changed everything
Captain Thomas Delhaye was supposed to be wading through fifteen centimeters of powder. Surprise: the February 2026 weather forecast predicted… dry sunshine. Mild panic on the plateau; there was a lack of fresh snow.
Then night falls, and the wind picks up. By morning, thirty centimeters of snow cover the access road. “It was a gift,” the actor tells Télé Star. No chains or helicopters were needed; the production had planned for the snow groomer option.
Thanks to this immaculate carpet, the opening scene — the body discovered in front of the abandoned sawmill — gains that soft texture which is the charm of the TV movie.
Filming at altitude without struggling: mission possible?
Yes, when we were preparing. The costume designer had lined each police officer’s uniform with a heated lining. The sound engineer? Custom-made microphone covers.
The result: no extended break, a schedule adhered to down to the minute. Murielle Huet des Aunay, who plays Juliette Hémon, only experienced one fall, which quickly turned into a fit of collective laughter. The team is already working on a potential sequel… still in Savoie, of course.
When the Haute Maurienne becomes the star of TV crime dramas
Neige is not a first attempt. Before him, Black Track And Deaths at the top had set their plots in these same landscapes. Each broadcast attracts around five million curious viewers, proof that the approach works.
Local councils see it as a tourist boon. Since March 2025, the “fictional crime trail” has been selling maps of filming locations for ten euros. Fans flock there, smartphones raised, hoping to stumble upon the cabin where the killer was staying.
It’s not certain that a TV serial killer will be enough to boost an entire valley, but word-of-mouth is spreading. France 2, for its part, knows it has a profitable and adaptable backdrop. If the producers are to be believed, the Savoyard snow is likely to be back in action very soon!
